A few of us had lunch and checked things out before checking in and stumbled upon a Gin Palace just over the road! The Waterhead Hotel boasted no less than 61 different Gins! Well that was Thursday night's entertainment sorted out.
A lovely walk into Ambleside itself was great, albeit we got back a big soggy as the heavens opened!
Wednesday evening saw the usual shenanigans including a very funny ice breaker for those ladies who hadn't been before and didn't know everyone. We played Scattergories and of course we couldn't not play "Don't show Keith yer teeth" - Anne L's favourite! It was lovely that Anne and Jean joined us for our actiivities although (some would say sensible girls) they stayed in a B&B up the road!
We were certainly blessed with the weather on Thursday and all enjoyed fabulous walks to Grasmere including the 'coffin route' with beautiful views of the lake and an amazing money tree that we added to.
On Thursday evening the quickly formed "WOW WI Gin Club" tried :
Botonist Islay Dry Gin
Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin
William Chase Elegant
William Chase Saville Orange
William chase sloe & Mulberry
Warner Edward Rhubarb
Pickering Navy Strength
All of of the above tried, tested and lovely. Not sure what was the favourite now? It certainly made our hoola hoops competition very funny when we got back to the hostel!! Shame no one took photos of this - think we were all laughing too much; it was hilarious. We were very good though and as we had only had little tasters of all the gins, there were no bad heads the following morning.
Boat trips, bus trips, walks with no trips and other stuff on Friday again in glorious weather before heading home.
Great fun, frolics and friendship - here's to next year!
Thanks to Jan G for this account of the trip to Ambleside. Sounds like a lot of fun. Plans are already underway for next September, so let Jan know if you are interested - always room for ladies who have not been before.
