The Federation Annual Council Meeting was held on Thursday 13th March 2014 at Southport Conference Centre. 4 members from Woolton WI attended (Diane Jennings, June Mitchell, Anne Large and Jan Crompton). The General Business Meeting commenced first with the Adoption of Annual Reports and Accounts. During the Report the President mentioned that thy were continuing to grow and WOW was one of the new WIs that had recently been formed..
After the Business meeting we had a short talk by Jane Dixon, the Denman Ambassor saying there will be more weekend courses and special offer courses for WI S in the region. Jim Fowler, from Lancashire Fire and Resuce Service gave a short talk and slide presentation on the Keep Safe and Warm campaign which is linked to the WI. Members had been helping by knitting hats, scarves and knee blankets and this is greatly appreciated.
We then had a talk and slide show by CG. Cmdr Sonia M. Phytian of the Royal Air Force about her work as an Air Evacuaton Navigator in Afganistan and particularly Helmand Province. Her role is to give transport for the patient from the field back into service. life. The slide presentation showed the conditions that these brave people have to work under and we all felt that Sonia was doing a wonderful job. The members present gave her a standing ovation.
For the afternoon session, the Speaker was Adam Henson (of BBC Countryfile fame) who gave us a wonderful insight into his life as a TV personality and his life on his Gloucestershire farm. He told us about his rare breeds and that he has recently opened up his farm for families to bisit. He is kept extremely busy but would not have it any other way. His message to the W.I. membesr was to buy British and to look f rth Red Tractor logo with British flag on our meat produce and other items.
The members who attended thoroughly enjoyed the whole day and especially the wonderful speakers.
