
Tuesday 2nd June was a miserable day. But hey ho, I'm off to Buckingham Palace to a Garden Party being hosted by The Duchess of Cornwall and The Countess of Wessex. Time to get the war paint and glad rags on. I had free digs with my niece and her family for a couple of nights. On the journey into London I began to get butterflies in my stomach but my cheerful London Cabbie who took me from the train to the Palace soon put me at ease and dropped me at the gates to the Palace. The queue stretched further than the eye could see and I passed ladies dressed in every hue imaginable. They looked truly wonderful.
Eventually we were police checked through the gates with our two forms of I.D and we entered the glorious gardens. We were able to wander at will through the 40 acres of Royal gardens . They were breathtaking, with so many beautiful and unusual plants and trees. The gravel drive took you past the Rose Gardens and Specimen Trees leading eventually to the Bandstand and the Camomile Lawn and Tea Tents, The Diplomatic Tent, the Royal Tent and the Main Tent.
People were standing 10 deep to get a glimpse of the Royal party and I'm afraid I failed. I learnt later that Camilla is qute small and as I am afraid I am a bit of a "borrower" myself I was unable to see her. I wandered towards the lake where they were serving much needed and very good lemonade.
As I continued to the Lake (which covers 3 cres) there were some fancy ducks with very pretty ducklings on the bank. There was not enough time to
