Here are some preemie patterns showing items needed by the bereavement team at the Women's Hospital. Some of the patterns are four ply and some are DK. They can probably all be knitted using either and the correct size needles to give a variety of sizes, as all are needed from very tiny to full term. The yarn needs to be soft, as preemie's skin is very delicate, so baby yarns are best. bay colours are preferred, such as white, lemon, pink, lilac, blue, mint and pale turquoise. They generally receive lots of items in colours suitable for girls, but less for boys, which they are often short of.
As well as clothes and blankets, items the parents can keep or give to relatives are also popular, such as memory squares (4 or 5 inch squares that match a bigger blanket), bootees and tiny twin teddies (one teddy stays with the baby and the other is kept by the parents). The Women's have also asked for full size baby blankets, they receive many small blankets but not many full size ones for babies who are full term and don't make it.
